What was actually observed?
An animal retreats, rears up or guards an egg sac. These descriptions are more precise than simply calling it aggressive. A strike at prey is another situation again. Reliable comparison would require equivalent stimuli, repeated observations and a defined measurement. Dramatic internet clips generally do not supply those conditions.
Two defensive examples
Female huntsman spiders may guard offspring and display when disturbed. The Goliath birdeater has defences including urticating hairs and sound production. These illustrate different mechanisms. They establish neither that the animals seek people nor which species would be most likely to bite under every possible circumstance.
The limit of a superlative
We provide a section on defence without inventing an aggression score. Context, species and observed response belong together. Deliberately irritating an animal does not produce an undisturbed encounter. Space and patience reveal more of its everyday life and help prevent confusion between defensive reactions and ordinary activity.
